Anderson, Marian
(27 feb. 1897, Filadelfia, Pa., EE.UU.–8 abr. 1993, Portland, Ore.).

Cantante estadounidense. Fue reconocida de inmediato por la belleza de su voz y talento artístico desde que debutó en Nueva York en 1924. Pero el hecho de ser afroamericana le imposibilitó dar conciertos o hacer carrera en la ópera en EE.UU. Su debut en Londres en 1930 y las giras por Escandinavia la afianzaron en Europa donde trabajó exclusivamente hasta 1935. Cuando en 1939 la fundación Daughters of the American Revolution (Hijas de la guerra de independencia de EE.UU.) le negó el uso del Constitution Hall en Washington, D.C., Eleanor Roosevelt dispuso que cantara en el Lincoln Memorial, difundiéndose el concierto con gran éxito. Su estreno en el Metropolitan Opera, la primera actuación realizada allí por una cantante afroamericana, tuvo lugar en 1955, cuando frisaba los 60 años.
